Operation: Fallen Leaves - Redux

An Infinity Narrative Event

Commander...

Welcome to planet Dawn. We trust the journey was pleasant for you and your team but, I'm afraid there's no time for lengthy introductions; the situation is grave and you're needed in the field immediately.

I'll be your CO while you're here. I am Command's liaison with Bureau Aegis and we're here as part of O-12's multi-lateral Peace & Security agenda. Point being, we're here to play nice with the others, until Command says otherwise. Anyway...

Two hours ago Dawn was the target of a co-ordinated Quantronic attack. The Roving Star Satellite Network (which provides planet-wide GPS, communications and SATC - space/air traffic control) was taken offline leaving Dawn blind and deaf. Mercifully the attack wasn't irreparable and reports are it will be back up within the hour.

However that's where the good news ends. The Ariadnans are outraged that this might be the prelude to an attack, the opening shots in the renewal of the Commercial Wars between Ariadna and the other nations of the human sphere. The situation is volatile, an O-12 emergency session is already convening to try and ease tensions but hopes aren't high.

If you recall your briefing package, Dawn, home to the Ariadnan nation, has a tumultuous past. Even if it trusted the other nations of the sphere that occupy the Exclusion Zone, Ariadna would still harbour a chequered history of division within its own four federated states. USAriadna, Merovingia, Caledonia and Rodina. The latter of which is the main political power. The whole planet is fertile ground for civil unrest, criminality and political subterfuge. It's still not clear who's responsible for this attack, it could have come from within or without Ariadnan borders. But sadly, this is only half the story.

Shortly before Roving Star was taken out, the satellite network picked up mayday and distress signals from multiple civilian air and spacecraft. I attached one of them here.

They all seemed to report essentially the same problem: engine failure causing mid-air stalls. This forced the pilots to perform emergency landings.

A lot of these landings were performed near runways and other heli pads etc, as they were either taking off or landing at the time. Thankfully no casualties have been reported as of yet.

Nevertheless there remains a significant number of craft that had to put down in whereabouts unknown. Of particular concern are the orbital shuttles. These were attempting to reach escape velocity to leave the atmosphere at the time of the incident. With Roving Star being down, Ariadna's ability to locate any of these is non-existent and they could be anywhere on the planet.

Aegis is not alone in thinking these two events are connected. Given this could lead to war it's issued a Code: Infinity. That's where you come in.

We have coordinates on file for the locations of SATC radar sites. These are outposts that collect aerial and atmospheric data to be uploaded to Roving. Aegis is tasking its local assets to scramble to these sites. Your task is to investigate the infrastructure there, see if there was any data recorded before the blackout started. If there's any clue as to the locations of the missing flights, it'll be there.

Finally a word of warning from Command. Yours won't be the only team in the field. Expect competition and resistance from other parties. Make sure yours is the team that stays ahead of the curve.

It's going to be a long day Commander. Happy Hunting...

Intro

Welcome to Operation: Fallen Leaves - Redux, an IGL Infinity narrative event! This site should contain everything that you need to know to participate in the tournament, but if you do need to get in touch, please feel free to contact:

About Operation: Fallen Leaves - Redux

This will be an ITS 17 event run for Infinity N5. It takes place online on the IGL discord server between X & Y. It is a 3 round event and each round will last 10 days. The event is a semi-ITS, semi-narrative, semi-casual experience. “ITS” in so far as it’s structured similar to a full International Tournament System and results will be submitted on Corvu-Sphere! Please click here to register! “Narrative” in that there will be a story that unfolds throughout the course of the rounds! The aspiration is that every player will be able to come away from the event having carved out their own story within a wider set of epic events. There will be lore-drops between missions, in-mission story-cues and to top it off a faction score to see if one of the many human-sphere nations comes out on top of the day! “Casual” as it’s designed to allow the maximum number of participants irrespective of ability. Late entries are permitted!

Event Schedule

The missions are all from ITS 17.

Awards

The following awards are up for grabs along with their criteria: Best Commander - Winner of the tournament! Best Faction - the faction that finishes the day with the most faction points! A single Faction Point (FP) will be awarded for each game won. Additional FPs may be scored via classified objectives. In the event of a “mirror match”, FPs from classifieds will not count and a draw means 0FP. If you’re playing Non-Aligned-Armies (NA2) then any FPs scored will be “bought” by the faction that had the lowest score at the beginning of the round. In the event that is more than one faction then the NA2 player may choose which “contract” was accepted. A Stranger in Grey - there will be a secret prize to be won on the day, whose criteria is also secret!

What you need to do before the event

If you and your opponent want your game logged as an ITS match, you will need to have an ITS account. You can register here.

List Requirements & Submission

ITS lists with no extras. Up to two lists from the same vanilla faction or sectorial. Lists to be submitted at least 3 days before event (by midnight 12th November) via google form. If you're struggling with uploading lists drop us a message: help is available. This event will use a custom classified deck for each mission. The scoring criteria for each classified objective will not be changed from the original.

Army Selection

When filling in the google form there will be an option to indicate if you either are a beginner or are open to being paired with a beginner. Being paired with a beginner means that you should be open to the idea of playing someone with an army list of less than 300 points down to a minimum of 150pts. Once your paired with your opponent _and_ it's clear that the pairing is a beginner game then both players should discuss what size of game would be the most fun.

Round Duration

Rounds are the standard 3 hours as per the IGL handbook.

Recording Results

Results will be recorded at the end of each round using the google forms.

Also…

The spirit of the event is welcoming, friendly and competitive. Please always remember we play to enjoy ourselves. Any negative behaviour towards opponents or the TO’s is not welcome and will be addressed. If there is a rule query please make every effort to resolve the issue by checking the rules. If it remains unresolved players are encouraged to roll off d20 vs d20 to decide. If that would not be suitable as it is a key point or pivotal moment in the game, please contact a TO for a decision. Decisions will be final in the interests of time keeping and an effort will be made to highlight the basis in the rules for the outcome. We look forward to seeing you and hope you have a fantastic event!
